1993 Dodge Ram - Balboa Motorhome

One in the world conversion

1993 Dodge Ram Van chassis that has a 1972 Balboa Motorhome on it.  Balboa Motorhomes were made in Costa Mesa, California by a boat builder out of fiberglass for about 5 years 1968-1973.  About 1000 were made, but this 1972 fiberglass unit was lifted off its original van and put onto a newer model van with more modern comforts.  It’s probably the only one in the world.  I’ll do my best to describe it, but basically it’s a unicorn.  I get a million questions about it all the time, lots of smiles too.  A small motorhome that has a huge feel, doesn’t rattle or rust.

 

The Van:

1993 Dodge Ram 3500 v8 5.9L Fuel injection with 4 speed transmission with overdrive button

125,000 miles, Air Conditioning, cruise control, power steering, anti-lock brakes

Apple /Android Compatible Handsfree Bluetooth Carplay Stereo with Backup Camera

Good Tires, New rear brakes, passed California brake and light inspection and Smog

California Title in my name is a Salvage title due to the camper shell being put on the new van

Air Bag Adjustable Suspension Kit, tow package, no rust, very clean van

Exterior was recently painted with new tail lights and custom stripes

 

The Camper:

  • Onan Power Generator in the side compartment

  • Roof top AC which can blow cold air or warm air 

  • Huge sliding windows were removed and re-sealed, new interior window screens

  • Side Awning works great

  • Ceiling was repainted with a fiberglass marine paint

  • All lights were replaced with touch dimmer LED puck lights

  • Upper Cabinets were lined with new soft carpeting

  • All hinges and hardware was replaced, metal polished

  • New TrafficMaster vinyl plank floors installed with new base trim

  • Interior panels /cabinets repaired and primed and painted, wood trim was sanded/stained

  • New butcher block countertop, sealed, and new sink faucet

  • Hot water heater heats when the van drives or when van is plugged in/ generator is on 

  • 30 gallon on board water tank, new water pump, new shower head and bathroom faucet

  • Marine/Boat toilet with 5 gallon holding tank for black water, and 30 gallon waste tank

  • Wet Bathroom/shower/toilet room in the rear of the camper

  • Under-mounted 8 gallon propane tank

  • Clean Propane 3 burner stove / oven like new

  • Dometic Fridge w/ freezer runs on Propane or electric, very clean, like new

  • Propane Suburban Heater with thermostat for cabin area when camping

  • 110v Power Plug in cord with battery charger and when plugged in all things run off power

  • 100w Renogy Solar panel w/ New Marine Axillary Battery which also charges by alternator 

  • Rear outside rinse shower with detachable hose (great for the beach sand rinse off)

  • Rear outside porch light and all exterior running lights work

  • Rear ladder and roof luggage rack

  • Upper bunk area for storage or childrens bed area

  • Cushions are all original upholstery, very clean, but could easily be redone to suit your style

  • Dinette area table can be lowered down to make a double bed

  • Couch can be pulled out to a bed, so sleeps 5?  Two in each bed, one up in top bunk!

  • No rear seatbelts, but you can install them if you wish

  • Ignition key opens doors, new locks and keys for new rebuilt/sealed rear door

Needs:

I ordered a new grey/black water holding tank.  I will have it installed, the old one was cracked and leaky.   There is a squeak on the front driver side, I think it needs alignment.  It drives straight and steady on the highway, but maybe the lower control arm is slightly out of alignment.  Other than that I think its ready to go.
